The Dragon-Blooded have always had a strong default setting in the Oitcaste, but the intrigues and imperialism of the Scarlet Dynasty are far from the only stories you can tell with them.
An outcastes game can diverge dramatically from the standard mode of play that Dynastic Dragon-Blooded support, and opens up room for character concepts that would be hard to reconcile with the Realm. Lookshy has been the most prominent outcaste group across every edition of Exalted. While the Realm is a decadent aristocracy that profits off the engines of empire, Lookshy is a military junta that hearkens back to the war-torn past of the Shogunate.
The Wanasaan offer an example of how a single Dragon-Blooded family might carve out a place in Creation. The Sisterhood of Pearls is both an illustration of what a heretical splinter sect of the Immaculate Order might look like, and a hook for a self-contained story about the inherent tensions in a utopian religious commune. Outside of that, the Outcastf can also provide a lot of mileage as NPCs — they might serve as potentially-justified antagonists to Immaculate monks and other devout Dynasts, or present a different kind of Wyld Hunt to Solars or Lunars.
Great Forks, the city of many gods. The Seven Storms Brotherhood can serve either as antagonists — perhaps for a Sworn Kinship of Dragon-Blooded from the Realm or another outcaste group — or as a framework for a PC group, with players taking on the role of individual Storms for Water Hhe -inspired games.
What Fire Has Wrought also gives brief descriptions of half a dozen other outcaste groups, as potential background material for Dragon-Blooded PCs or plot hooks for Storytellers to use. Some of these are familiar faces, like the Rogue Legion of Saloy Hin that rebelled against the Realm after the Great Houses carved up the Imperial legions, or the deadly assassin clan called the Grass Spiders.

If you have any thoughts on which ones we should focus on, let us know! Thanks lots for the previews! Thank you so much for letting us get these early looks at the manuscripts! I’m really enjoying the new take on the Realm and Lookshy in particular, especially the more in-depth explanation of how satrapies work as well as which nations are satrapies and which are not. I also like how a lot of the characters have much more depth to them, and the narrative is less about good guys and bad guys and more about moral relativism.
I was wondering if there might be some mention about Dragon-bloods both dynasts and outcastes and the Guild, especially on the subject of Dragon-blooded members of the Guild? While I enjoyed all of the groups, the ones I would really want to see in more details are the Wanasaan, the Violet Fang and the Battalion.
The Wanasaan really gives a differet take for a Dragon Blooded game, and their exorcist and special initiation gives them a powerful aesthetic.
The Violet Fang just sound alien and weird, and I’m interested to see what is the result of having the blood of the Dragons mixed with the Fae. The Battalion simply has a powerful and evocative themes and aesthetics, as a lost legion from out of time who serve as roaming mercenaries and speak with dead languages, something which really emphasis the “outcast” feeling of the group.
But again, all of the groups sound interesting and cool: I’m really curious to hear more about this other reality Yatani’s Children think they’re from. Heaven’s Dragons sound like an interesting way to get a peak into 3E Yu-Shan.
And the Violet Fangs are just weird and wonderful. The Sisterhood of the Pearls uotcaste a favorite too, though I’m not sure what else you could add for them. The Wanasaan are there only thing. Dragon-Blooded necromancers are gonna show up in whichever book has the necromancy rules. Cult of the Violet Fang, or Grass Spiders? How can I choooooose?
Creation is so big it’s really nice to see interesting and engaging Outcaste organization that a player can instantly find a reason to join: I’d love to see some sample mechanics for the Cult of the Violet Fang’s Fae blessings in the Companion. The outcastes have always been a favorite part ouutcaste Dragon Blooded for me through the years, and I’m really glad to see the outcastes expansion 2 already upcoming on the stretch goals: The new group Heaven’s Dragons sounds extremely interesting and could open up a really different place ouycaste start a Terrestrial level game that I would really like to explore.
I’d definitely be outcate interested in getting additional detail focused on this group. Other groups I’d most be interested in hearing more about would be the Temple of the Reverent Whisper and the Sisterhood of Pearls. I’m probably least excited about additional Lookshy info, since it seems like there’s already a lot of that and it’s already getting 2 more expansions in Heirs of the Shogunate.
