Although most of the stories were not considered as having one of those ‘happy ending’, i cannot resist on giving this book 5 stars. It ,hul written quite awhile ago but I still feel that many families face these same circumstance more so in the villages away from the cities.

I kept getting confused as to who’s narrative I was reading. The women are of different races, faiths, and classes, but what’s interesting is how close to identical their lives are.

It helped me gain the perspective of how different lives can become when just one person strives for something or leaves it up to fate. From birth and childhood to puberty, clitoridectomy, marriage, adult life, and children, we are allowed a generous glimpse, through these very personal accounts, into the details of five women’s daily lives.

I felt deeply touched by some of the stories. But is still mirrors situations of today.
